Courses

Steve teaches woodturning based on the knowledge of the student. From beginners who have never touched a lathe or a woodturning chisel – to the person who just wants to brush up his skills or is having difficulty with a particular tool or process maybe hollowing or sharpening.

The course is structured to the student’s requirements, you may have tools and equipment already but are unsure how they work or how to use them. A ‘try before you buy’ approach can be very useful if you are thinking of taking up woodturning.

There is also the option to have a fun/experience day, allowing the student/s to go home with projects they have made, during a more relaxed environment. Courses are designed to suit, usually on a one-to-one basis or with a maximum of two students, who are known to each other.

Course days start at 9.30am and finish approximately 5.00pm and cost £140.00 per day, per person. For courses for 2 people known to each other please ask for price. All materials and safety equipment are provided as well as refreshments throughout the day and a light lunch, please advise of any dietary requirements.

Please contact Steve regarding mutually acceptable dates.
To request a course brochure or to book a course, please contact Steve either by Email or telephone.
He can also teach in your workshop if required, please contact him to discuss this requirement.

Steve has Gift Vouchers available – these can be used for or towards courses, products for sale, materials or tools. Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing a voucher for a present.

And are currently showing off our bowls and candlesticks to everyone.
Please also pass on our thanks to Sheila for a delicious lunch and cups of coffee and tea, all very much appreciated.
Fiona – May 19

What a wonderful day. You won’t have realised that today was a little bit of a milestone for my Father and I…..
Both you and Shelia have a wonderful way with people which we both loved and that’s before we even get to the woodturning!
I have had one or two WOW’s which is slightly disappointing but certainly gives me the motivation to go on and create something even more spectacular. A sincere thank you to you both for a lovely day.
Clive- May 19

… thanks for a fabulous day yesterday, thank-you for your great teaching, help and understanding, I hit a brick wall half way through the oak bowl !!
Eileen – May 19

I had a brilliant day thank you so much.
Stuart – April 19

I just wanted to write a few words of thanks and gratitude for the splendid day I spent with you yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and Sheila for not only the tuition, but the inspiration to do more woodcraft. I am presently about to sit down and write some notes of the sequence of actions to produce the bowl from “rough block to finished” bowl! with the help of the notes and names I jotted down on my pad. My wife Jenni was very impressed with the results and the bowls will be exhibited when we visit Rob our eldest son at Easter! As for the pen ..it has disappeared already in to somebodies “lucky Dip handbag!” My day was made all the more enjoyable by your patience and good guidance plus the copious cups of tea and coffee and very welcome enjoyable lunch made by Sheila. Please thank Sheila again for me. I hope we can meet again but meantime keep well and keep teaching!
Keith – April 19

Just wanted to drop you an Email to say thank you for day on Tuesday. I really enjoyed it and it was a pleasure to see a real craftsman at work. Thanks again and very best wishes for the future The management was very pleased with the items brought home!
Steve – Mar 19

A rather belated email to thank you for my great day last weekend. I really loved the woodturning, and was very happy to be under your experienced and good humoured guidance.
Lottie – Mar 19

Hi, thank you for a fabulous day, I am so pleased with my pieces. Hope I didn’t stress you too much, just remember, not too much hot glue,!  Sleep well, will be in touch soon to fix another day, will give you time to recover first.
Eileen – Feb 19

I spent two days with Steve, and enjoyed every second. He carefully assessed what I already knew, and took my learning on from there. He was very responsive when I asked for specific skills and knowledge. I learnt a huge amount, and it has given me great confidence and inspiration to return to my workshop. I’ve completed an apple and a pear just like Steve showed me! The workshop is extremely well laid out for teaching, and there seem to be no skills or tools that Steve doesn’t know about or have the ability to demonstrate. His immense experience in both commercial and decorative turning give such great depth to his teaching. Lunch is delicious, and he will ensure you leave with one or two finished pieces to enjoy. Highly recommended.
Glenn – Mar 19

Had a great day, Ruth very impressed by apple, told her it was mostly my own work! Have made a home made screw chuck and found a piece of semi scrap that may have apple in it! Please pass on my thanks again for the delicious lunch.
Glenn – Feb 19

Thanks for today, great session.
Richard – Jan 19

Thankyou again for the training day yesterday – I very much enjoyed it! I’ve just ordered a Record Power SC4 chuck so hopefully I’ll be creating piles of sawdust fairly soon!
Bob – Jan 19

Just a quick note to thank you for your time with Harry. He really enjoyed it.
Anji – Dec 18

Thanks so much for an amazing day.
Paul – November 18

I wanted to send you a quick note to say how very much I enjoyed my day with you yesterday. My snowman and bowl have already been greatly admired both at home and also in the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia! You have really whetted my appetite to explore the wood turning hobby further although my wife is a little anxious about the plans that I am beginning to formulate for the construction of a workshop! I will be in touch again as and when I am ready to progress for advice and may well invest in a further day of tuition.
Simon – October 18

I would like to book another day with you to learn more. I am sure you have an awful lot more you could teach.
Karl – October 18

Just wanted to say thanks again for the amazing lesson the other week – it was really rewarding.  Do you have any slots free in November – I’d like to come back and have another go 🙂
Chris – October 18

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you for the instruction last Saturday. It was a very enjoyable day, the only downside being the lathe and tool envy I came away with!!  Can you also thank Sheila again for her hospitality.
Gwyn – June 18

Once again many thanks you the brilliant day! I’ll be straight off to get some wood tomorrow to practice the skills from morning till evening.
Many thanks and have a good day tomorrow!
Patrick – April 18

I have attached some photos of my third bowl which gave me some practice with the techniques you taught me and a different style of foot. …. I wanted to thank you for an excellent two days, I learnt a lot and what’s more I very much enjoyed your company and our conversation. It was also good to meet Sheila and thank you to both of you for your kind hospitality.
Ian – March 18

Ash – March 18

Brilliant thanks Steve. I was going to mail you but you’ve beaten me to it. He is out in the garage as I type he is enjoying it so much. Thank you for your help and for all the advice today.
Rachel – Feb 18

Thank you for an excellent day of teaching on Friday. I was really pleased with the progress with the lamps and to learn several new techniques. Other advice was helpful also. I will practice and then book another day.
Peter – Feb 18

Many thanks for a most enjoyable day, cannot believe how much knowledge you passed on in just one day, my confidence has been enhanced no end and hopefully after a little more practice and experience my skill will also improve.
It was a great day and very much appreciated.
Paul – Feb 18

….It was a lovely day and while I am sure Steve was bored to tears I really enjoyed my day as a student. The net result of which is that my performance on the lathe has improved enormously and I have become a much more relaxed man in the workshop.
Tom – Feb 18

The very briefest of notes to say thank you for yesterday. Your forbearance and patience in answering all my very simplistic questions is much appreciated and it was a most useful day. As well as being highly informative it was also great fun and I had a most enjoyable time as well as learning an enormous amount.
It was a tremendous day, great fun and should you ever need instruction on military strategy or challenge thinking give me a call and I’ll return the favour!
Many thanks and all the best for the future,
Tom – Jan 18

Just a note to thanks you for your time, help, and advice on Friday and to say how much I enjoyed the day, especially as it seems it might be worthwhile going a bit further with wood turning, so i may have a new hobby now!
The family were impressed with the candle stick and the bowl I brought home so its was a successful day.
Next step is to look at the hardware needed and get some in place to work with.
Colin & James – Jan 18

….thanks so much for the lesson today. Ben and I really enjoyed it and certainly learned lots. His bowl is already all over Instagram and Facebook and whatever else he gets up to on the internet!
Neil – Dec 17

A quick note to thank you very much for the excellent day’s tuition last week. I learned a lot, things are improving with the skew and building a small platform beside the lathe has helped a lot.
Again, many thanks.

Thank you for a great day at your woodturning course yesterday. The course
was well planned and covered all the elements I wanted. You are an excellent
instructor and you explain and demonstrate in a thoroughly informative and
understandable manner. Overall it was a really enjoyable experience and I
have no doubt I will be returning.
